(10)The Word of Faith

1.According to the heretical doctrines of Word-of-Faith,

words are the most powerful thing in the universe because

they are containers that carry[faith]. The Word-of-Faith preachers

believe that words are so powerful that they can influence and

alter the physical and spiritual worlds.

2.[And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. God saw

that light was good, and he separated the light from the

   darkness] (Gen 1:3-4).

3.Twisting these Bible verses in Genesis, the Word-of-Faith

preachers falsely claim that God created the Universe by the

power of His word, instead of using His own power. They

claim that God has faith in His own words. When God created

the Universe, God spoke words of faith: [Let there be light].

Because God has faith in His words, therefore they come to pass,

   [and there was light].

4.In the Bible, the power of God’s word was not in the words, but

solely in the divine speaker of those words. The power that God

used in creating the Universe was solely God’s power. The words

that God spoke in creation had no power of its own. All power

   comes from God Himself.

5.At times, God can use men as His spokesmen and use their words

powerfully, but the power of man’s words is not its own power,

but the power given by God and used solely for God’s special

   purposes.

6.[David said to the Philistine, You come against me with sword and

spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the

Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have

defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike

you down and cut off you head. Today I will give the carcasses

of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the

earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!

All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear

that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give

all of you into our hands](1 Samuel 17:45-47).

7.David’s words make it clear that he was fighting in God’s name

and with God’s help. As far as David was concerned, his spoken

words and his following action were a sign, not of his own

greatness, nor of the power of his words, but of God’s power.

The words of David were inspired by the Holy Spirit for God’s

honour. The claim by Word-of-Faith teachers that David

used his words to activate the power of God to bring about the

subsequent killing of Goliath is an example of Scripture-twisting.

8.In the heretical doctrine of Word-of-Faith, God created the

world out of nothing by faith, and  He created men as little gods

to exercise the same kind of faith.

9.They believe that since God [by His faith], using his words, spoke

this world into existence, the believer, by his faith, using his words,

can also speak things into existence.

11.Mark 11:22: [Have faith in God, Jesus answered].The Word-of-Faith

preachers changed the correct translation of this Bible verse from

[Have faith in God] into [Have faith of God]. The faith referenced in

Mark 11:22 is clearly [the faith which has God as its object], not

the [the kind of faith that God has].

12.God is omnipotent and does not need or have [faith]. Faith is

depending on something outside ourselves. If God depends

upon something outside Himself, He is not Supreme and therefore

    not God.

13.Man , not God, is in need of faith. According to the heretical

doctrines of the Word-of-Faith, there is a spiritual force residing

in the human spirit. This spiritual force is the force of faith.

The spoken words of man can release the force of faith. This

force of faith can activate the power of the  [Holy Spirit]

to make their confessions come true.

14.Therefore, Word-of-Faith followers believe that getting every

desire of the heart depends simply on getting their formulas

correct. The formula is that they should first decide what they

want, believe it is theirs, and confess it to be true, state it

positively and without wavering. Reputedly, they can obtain

the longings of their heart by naming and claiming them by faith.

15.James 4:13-16 clearly contradicts this heretical teaching.

[Now listen, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to this

or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make

money. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.

What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and

then varnishes. Instead, you ought to say, If it is the Lord’s will,

we will live and do this or that.  As it is, you boast and brag.

All such boasting is evil](James 4:13-16).

16.The followers of Word-of-Faith believe that God’s ability to bless

us supposedly hangs on their faith and their faith is a matter of

what they say more than who they trust or what truths they

embrace and affirm in their hearts.

17.When their dreams do not come true, (for nearly all they won’t

come true), their preachers will attribute the failure in thought

actualization to their lack of faith. Eventually these followers

walk away in bitterness, believing that Christianity is a con job.

Such horrible experiences undermine the witness and credibility

   of the true Christians.

18.As the non-Christians cannot tell the difference between the

true Christianity and the heretical one, the Word-of-Faith is,

   in effect, the anti-evangelism.
